GLCAP Awarded Migrant Head Start Grant

The U.S. Dept. of Health and Human Services (HHS) has awarded Great Lakes Community Action Partnership (GLCAP) a five-year Migrant and Seasonal Head Start grant to serve children and families throughout Ohio.

The $5.4 million-per-year grant will allow GLCAP to annually serve 324 children ages birth-4 in Clark, Henry, Stark, Richland and Sandusky counties. GLCAP will add 130 staff to provide preschool and childcare services at early childhood facilities located in Fremont, Hartville, Helena, Napoleon, New Carlisle, and Shiloh.

“We are thrilled to have the opportunity to help more families throughout Ohio with early childhood education needs,” GLCAP President/CEO Ruthann House said. 

The Migrant and Seasonal Head Start program offers no-cost child development, family support and engagement services to eligible migrant and seasonal agriculture worker families with young children. The nationwide program began in 1969 to assist migrant and seasonal agriculture worker families with early childhood education and other needs.
