Local artist designs new look for TRIPS Fremont Shuttle

The TRIPS Fremont Shuttle has been sporting a new colorful look this summer.

The TRIPS Fremont Shuttle’s Orange Line (east side route) vehicle has a new wrap featuring iconic Fremont landmarks including the city’s water tower, sugar towers, and Sandusky River railroad bridge. Images of fish, cabbage, a washing machine, and ketchup also celebrate the recreational activities and products that are part of Fremont and Sandusky County’s culture.

The project was funded by an Ohio Arts Council Creative Communities grant and designed by Emma Lehmann of Doodle Den Designs. T-n-T Graphics in Vickery fabricated and installed the wrap.

Great Lakes Community Action Partnership (GLCAP), which operates TRIPS Public Transportation, had asked community members to submit design proposals for the shuttle vehicle last spring. Artists were encouraged to propose shuttle designs that celebrated Fremont’s culture and history. Designs were then reviewed and selected by a committee of staff and community members.

“We had many great design proposals for the shuttle and saw a lot of talented work from artists in our community,” said GLCAP Public Relations Director Alex Boroff. “We chose Emma’s submission since it showcases the iconography that helps make Fremont famous, and we also loved the colors used throughout the design.”

In addition to her artistic work, Lehmann is co-owner of The Open House gallery in downtown Fremont, a shop that features handmade items, jewelry, art pieces, and other items from local crafters and artists.

The shuttle can be seen traveling TRIPS Fremont Shuttle Orange Line route that serves the east side of Fremont. The shuttle also operates a Green Line route that serves the city’s west side. Both lines operate 8 a.m.-6 p.m., Monday-Friday, with a fee of $1 per ride and multiple stops on each route.

More information on the shuttle is available at www.glcap.org/trips.
